Well I fought authority and wow did they win. I was publicly chastised by a group of middle aged men who consist of our school board. I dared to say the superintendent who has a “servants heart” was being obstructive when it came to allowing children in our area to overcome their social standing and financial situations. What started all the mess was I started attending school board meetings to see what was up. At the meetings we learned they were buying new computers for the school system. One board member, who is not appreciated by the board brought up the fact that perhaps the computers could be given to the children in the community…worthy cause right? Well he was dismissed immediately by the superintendent and no other board members were interested in obtaining this lofty goal. So I talked to the superintendent who waffled back and forth on the issue and we went to a petition drive. We ended up with the computers so our next project was to attach the hiring policies for summer maintenence. He hired his son and various school board members children and people associated with the school system and he refused to change that policy and incorporate need based as part of his criteria for hiring…this was going to go to another petition drive when we thought we’ll see if we can’t get his notice by starting one to not renew his contract…boy did we get his attention after 350 signatures. He did not lose his job but he did rally enough employees and their families…not the majority of employees but enough…to make it look as though we were a minority and they impuned our petition with their nastiness, one man stood up and said I had my values and ethics upside down. Good times…but I did get their attention…
